The WSSP was initiated in 1993 and has run for the last 26 years. Each year the WSSP starts in July with a summer Institute at a central location to the participating schools and continues at each high schools through the academic year. Over the years, the locations of the summer Institutes have extended beyond New Jersey, and the research projects investigated by the WSSP students and teachers have changed.
