Grants for High School Teachers

1. Grants from your school/PTO affiliated with your school: There may be grants offered through your school district or parent/teacher association. For example, the districts below have provided support (taken directly from web sites):

Bayonne High School BOE: Adopt a School Program (funded the purchase of Molecular Biology Books)

Watchung Hills Regional High School Parent-Teacher Organization: Article II: Objectives – Section 1. It shall be the chief purpose of this organization to promote the best educational opportunities for all young people at the Watchung Hills Regional High School. Serving as a supportive body in the total development of the student - intellectual, civic, moral, ethical, cultural – the organization will thus encourage or underwrite such programs and projects that promote this totality of education at the Watchung Hills Regional High School.

Toshiba America Foundation contributes to science & math education by investing in teacher designed projects for 6-12 students.     Grade 6-12 grant requests of more than $5,000 are due August 1, 2011. All other grade 6-12 requests are evaluated on a rolling basis. (Information taken directly from web site)

3. Toyota TAPESTRY Grant Program - http://www.nsta.org/pd/tapestry/guidelines.htm
Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. and the National Science Teachers Association are pleased to announce the 21st Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers program. This year, 50 grants of $10,000 each will be awarded to K–12 teachers of science in the United States. The category is Environmental Science. To apply for funding, qualified teachers must write a Toyota TAPESTRY proposal according to the proposal requirements. All proposals must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. ET Thursday, March 3, 2011. Recipients of Toyota TAPESTRY grants will be notified in April 2011. Nonrecipients will be notified in June 2011. (Information taken directly from web site)

This program gives every school in the United States a chance to apply for grants of equipment and matches companies with schools to provide innovative solutions from equipment to total web integration. (Information taken directly from web site)

Intel Innovation in Education Grants
Intel Corporation makes grants of equipment to K–12 schools in areas where it has a major facility or to colleges and universities focusing on areas that match Intel's research interests. The focus of the Innovation in Education initiative includes support for science- math-, engineering-, and technology-focused education outreach. Local grants, managed through local site public affairs offices, are awarded to districts in which Intel has a strategic relationship.

Every year, Intel honors U.S. schools demonstrating excellence in math and science education through innovative teaching and learning environments. To be considered as an Intel School of Distinction, schools must develop an environment and curricula that meet or exceed benchmarks put forth by national mathematics and science content standards.

5. American Honda Foundation - http://corporate.honda.com/america/philanthropy.aspx?id=ahf
The American Honda Foundation is making available one-year grants from $20,000 to $60,000 for youth education and scientific education. Educational institutions, including K-12, colleges and universities, community colleges and trade schools are eligible, as well as nonprofit organizations and other foundations. "Scientific education" encompasses physical and life sciences, mathematics and the environmental sciences. (Information taken directly from web site)

Institutional Limitation:  Organizations may only submit one request in a 12-month period. This includes colleges and universities with several departments/outreach programs. Additional information concerning this institutional limitation will be posted when available.
Internal Deadline (for August submission): Jul. 6, 2011
Deadline for Submission: Feb. 1, May 1, Aug. 1, Nov. 1.

6. Vernier/NSTA TEchnology Awards The Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards promote the innovative use of data-collection technology using a computer, graphing calculator, or other handheld in the science classroom. We encourage you to apply for one of seven $3,000 awards. Due November 30, 2011.

Award Prize Each award will consist of $1,000 in cash for the teacher, $1,000 in Vernier Products, and up to $1,000 toward expenses to attend the annual NSTA National Convention.

Eligibility - Current teachers of science in grades K-College. Applicants may not have won previously at their school.

The Vernier Technology Awards will recognize and reward the innovative use of data-collection technology using a computer, graphing calculator, or other handheld in the science classroom. A total of seven awards will be presented:
One award at the Elementary Level (Grades K-5)
Two awards at the Middle School Level (Grades 6-8)
Three awards at the High School Level (Grades 9-12)
One award at the College Level
